fuschia + navy polka dots

There’s one style dilemma that continues to flummox me (yes, I just used the word flummox–gotta use that English degree somehow!): how to accessorize a patterned shirt. I guess I don’t really have a good grasp on when a combination is charmingly mismatched versus when it just looks confusing. I mention this quandary today because I wore my polka dotted button up with a new necklace.

In looking at these photos, I think the combination works, mostly due to the fact that the necklace is pretty simple and that its circles reflect the polka dot pattern.

I also think I am over-thinking things, as usual.

navy + white polka dot button-up {Merona via Target}, $22 similar

fuschia shorts {Gap}, old similar

white wedge sandals {Chaps via Kohl’s}, $25

gold station necklace {Etsy}, $5 similar

white vegan leather purse {Alyssa via TJ Maxx}, gift similar

What kind of jewlery would you wear with a shirt like this one?

  1. I would either do a bold, solid colored bib necklace. Or maybe wear two long gold necklaces like yours. But sometimes I think it’s nice to let the print do the work and accessorize elsewhere, like with a bold bracelet or earrings.

    • Great suggestions, Kate! I used to wear earrings all the time, but I have been neglecting them lately in favor of necklaces. I shoud add them back into rotation for shirts like this one!
