February 2015 Budget

February is a short month, but somehow I still managed to buy several items over the past four weeks. Here’s a look at my purchases:

Slide1

  • black wrap dress {Old Navy} $15 seen here I provided a full review in this post. Honestly, I added this dress to my order just to get free shipping, expecting it would be too small. I was pleasantly surprised by its fit and comfort. I should look for re-mix it posts from others on how to style a dress like this one–I’m sure there are several out there!
  • tweed moto jacket {New York + Company} $24 seen here This purchase ended up being quite a shopping saga (see the details here and here). Basically, I bought a jacket on Poshmark, realized it didn’t fit, and re-sold it. I tried a few other options, and after considering your feedback (OK, and my all-knowing mom’s too), I decided to keep this one. It certainly fit the best, and I think the length will make it easy to remix with jeans, dresses, and skirts. EDIT: I ended up returning this about a week after publishing this post. I decided I would rather find *exactly* what I want than settle for something that’s *almost* perfect.
  • leopard pullover sweater {J.Crew via Poshmark} $13 I’ve had a leopard print cardigan sitting in my closet for over a year now, and I never wear it. I love the print, but it’s just too big. I decided to sell it and trade it in for a better fitting, higher quality pullover sweater.
  • mint shorts {Old Navy} $8 seen here I also provided a full review of these in a previous post. It’s no secret that I live in shorts throughout the summer months, so I am pretty confident these will get worn quite a bit. OK, so I might be a little crazy to be buying shorts in February…
  • navy printed jeans {J.Crew via ThredUp} $26 I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of navy printed pants for a while now. While these are jeans, I think they’ll be appropriate for my lifestyle as a graduate student. I have recently discovered that J.Crew’s toothpick jeans fit me pretty well, so when I spotted these on ThredUp (new with tags!), I couldn’t pass them up.
  • wine pumps {Merona via Target} $20 seen herehere I have a pair of burgundy/wine/maroon flats that I wore a lot last year during my internship, so I figured it might be nice to have a pair of heels in the same shade. Plus, it didn’t hurt that they were on clearance!
  • pink pumps {Old Navy} $12 seen here, here, here This is another item I reviewed here. In the short time that I’ve owned these pumps, I’ve already worn them quite a bit, which I think speaks to how much I love them! The heel is pretty low to moderate in terms of height, which makes them easy to wear to work.
  • black + white colorblock tote {Christian Siriano for Payless} $36 seen here I’ve been eyeing this handbag ever since early December, just waiting for it to go on sale. I finally just decided to use up a birthday coupon and order it. I like that I could use this bag in any season and with pretty much any outfit.
  • gold link necklace {J.Crew Factory via Poshmark} $22 seen here, here I had mentioned this necklace in my last budget post, hoping that it would go on clearance soon. Well, it hasn’t shown any signs of hitting the clearance section, so I went ahead and bought one on Poshmark (new with tags).

February total: $176  $152

2015 total: $354  $330

Remaining budget: $1646 $1670

Last month, I spent $178, this month, it’s $176. I guess I’m pretty consistent! I’m pleased with my purchases this time around–they’re all things I’ve wanted for quite a while, or something that fulfills a need in my closet. As for next month, I’m hoping to expand my scarf collection–I really like this floral one and this paisley one.

What did you buy in February?

    • I keep telling myself that, but I still have yet to wear it! I guess it’s just that it’s been too cold for dresses lately. Hopefully it will end up being a wise purchase…
