November 2015 Budget

It’s that dangerous time of year–there are so many tempting sales! I managed to keep my spending under control for now, but at the time that I’m typing this up Black Friday + Cyber Monday have yet to occur…Those inevitable purchases will have to be accounted for in next month’s budget re-cap. Here’s what I added to my closet this month:

november 2015

tortoise shell earrings {Lauren Ralph Lauren} $12 I initially added these to my birthday + Christmas list, but then Amazon sold out of them…so I decided to do a little sleuthing and buy them elsewhere before they were gone for good! I’m a big fan of tortoise jewelry (see my necklace and watch), so I know that these neutral studs will get good use.

faux fur vest {Charming Charlie} $29 You might recall that I bought a faux fur vest last year. I wore it a few times but ultimately decided that it was unflattering and sold it. I still liked the idea of a fur vest though, so I started searching for a longer length version. I went into Charming Charlie on a whim during a recent shopping trip at our outlet mall and spotted this vest. It was incredibly soft, fit me well (even at 8 months pregnant!), and was on sale. Obviously, it had to come home with me!

burgundy skinny jeans {Ann Taylor} $42 I mentioned in my last budget post that I had been eyeing these pants. They finally hit the sale rack a few weeks ago, so I just had to wait for the next “extra 50% off sale” promo. $40+ is still a lot to spend on a pair of colored jeans, but I’m hoping they’ll end up having a relatively low cost per wear…

ivory textured cardigan {Merona via Target} $28 I’ve been searching for a long, cozy cardigan pretty much since I entered my third trimester. Initially, I tried this one from H+M, but when it arrived, it was incredibly itchy! I returned it promptly and tried this one instead. I had hoped to get it when it was on major sale (for just $18), but it was out of stock in stores and online. Once it was re-stocked, I sucked it up and paid a couple extra bucks to get what I wanted. I like that I’ll be able to wear this for these last few weeks of pregnancy as well as post-partum for a more oversized look.

leather trim ponte leggings {a.n.a. via JCPenney} $23 So leather leggings are apparently a thing these days. They look fantastic on those of you blessed with long, thin legs. I’m not so lucky, so I decided to play it a bit safer by getting some thick ponte pants with just a little faux leather detailing. Again, I can actually wear these now, but I think they’ll be nice to have after Baby C arrives too.

black dot pencil skirt {Loft Outlet} $22 Truth be told, this was an impulse purchase. Do I really need another polka dotted item of clothing? No, not really. That being said, its stretchy material will make it a good transition piece as I attempt to lose this baby weight, and quite honestly, it brought me joy when I tried it on. So there.

black striped bow detail tee {Loft Outlet} $11 This item is another “want” versus a “need.” The stripes and bow were too cute for me to resist!

November budget: $169

2015 total: $1831

Remaining budget: $169

This month was a mixed lot in terms of planned versus impulse purchases. The burgundy jeans and ivory sweater were both items I’ve been hoping to add to my closet ever since September, so we can file those under “carefully considered purchases.” The skirt and top from Loft Outlet are a different story…but they’re neutral and versatile enough that I don’t think I’ll be regretting having bought them in the future.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I also added two more items to my closet this month (although they didn’t cost me anything). First, I replaced my very well worn black wedges with these from Amazon using reward points. Also, as I mentioned in a past post, Seth and I celebrated a wedding anniversary this past month. In honor of the occasion, my thoughtful husband gave me these fantastic sunglasses.

I’ve already told you what’s on my holiday wishlist, but I will refrain from buying any of those items for myself over the next month–gotta leave something for “Santa” to bring me! That being said, Loft keeps tempting me with their extra 40% off sale promotions. I’ve been eyeing this top, this skirt, and this sweatshirt; I might just have to try them out during the next flash sale. Joe Fresh has also released some ridiculously cute holiday items, including these bow flats and this blouse. So basically, December could be dangerous for online shopping, particularly because I’ll likely be home with a newborn for the second half of the month…

What did you buy in November?

  1. I have my eye on a pair of purple pants at LOFT. While they are colored pants, I think the darker shades are easier to get away with. The Joe Fresh stuff is ridiculously cute! I’m so bummed that JCP stopped carrying their stuff 😦
