June 2016 Budget

Hello, all! Apparently, I’m taking a summer hiatus from blogging. It wasn’t a planned one, but I’m finding that I am already quite busy balancing research, classes, and family; blogging will have to wait until life slows down a bit! That being said, I still wanted to pop in to share my monthly purchases. Here’s what came home with me in June:

June 2016 Budget

the keepers

pink luxe touch tee {Banana Republic Factory} $14 ($36.50 on sale for $19.99 + extra 25% off coupon) I wasn’t kidding when I said I planned on buying this tee in every color. The shade of pink is slightly  more vivid than what is pictured above in the collage–a perfect summer tee that looks great with white jeans!

yellow clutch {Banana Republic Factory} $15 ($39.99 on sale for $19.99 + extra 25% off coupon) OK, this was definitely an impulse purchase. I was about to get in line to purchase my pink tee, when this happy little clutch (with a tassel!) caught my eye. With my coupon, it was just $15, so at least it was a reasonably priced impulse purchase.

navy striped skirt {J.Crew Factory} $36 ($79.50 marked down to $44.99 + extra 20% off coupon) I have been living in skirts this summer–they’re cooler than pants and more nursing-friendly than dresses. This one has been on my radar for a while now, so when it hit the clearance rack, I decided to go for it. I’ve already worn it several times.

blue + white striped tee shirt dress {J.Crew Factory} $40 ($79.50 marked down to $49.99 + extra 20% off coupon) I’m a big fan of t-shirt dresses, and I really loved the way Anne and Katie have styled it. I don’t have a lot of cobalt blue in my closet, so I decided to add it to my online cart. I’m planning on bringing it with me for our Fourth of July celebration down at the lake.

studio tee in white {J.Crew Factory} $11 ($22.50 on sale for $13.50 + extra 20% off coupon) I mentioned last month that I somehow have ended up without a basic white tee in my wardrobe. This one seemed to get good reviews, particularly for its non-sheer aspect. It’s comfy enough, but I still might like to try one from Everlane.

tan crossbody bag {Nordstrom} $33 ($54.40 marked down to $32.96) This item was on my wishlist, so as soon Nordstrom marked it down by 40%, I jumped on it!

dot blouse {LC Lauren Conrad via Kohl’s} $22 ($36 on sale for $26.99 + extra 20% off coupon) I’ve been looking for a polka dot blouse–not a tee, but a professional-ish blouse. I happened to be at Kohl’s with Seth a few weeks ago, and this one was on sale. It fits alright, but it’s a little slouchy, such that there is a lot of extra fabric when I try to tuck it into some of my skirts. I would return it, but the store is about a 25 minute drive away–with an infant in tow, I’m not sure it’s worth the effort!

the returns

No returns this month, although I’m still contemplating returning that dot blouse.

the extras

The only extras this month were pretty boring, to be honest. I inherited some money from my grandmother, so I used a bit of that money to replace my worn out sandals. And I’m being pretty literal when I say “replace”–I got the exact same Raevyn wedge sandals in three colors. They’re my go to for summer shoes–they work with both skirts and shorts!

June total: $170

2016 total: $985

Remaining budget: $1015

This month’s purchases are a bit more summery, with the inclusion of a few happy, colorful pieces. I think everything will get good use, particularly the white tee and crossbody bag. I probably didn’t need that yellow clutch, but it lifted my mood, so that’s worth something, right?

I’ll put together another bimonthly  wishlist in the coming week, and I already have a good idea of what will be on it. First, I am in need of a navy blue blouse. I have had quite a few instances over the past few weeks while getting dressed in which I thought to myself, “This would be cute with a navy top…” I am also hoping to find something gingham to add to my closet. I love the print (I have quite a few gingham button-ups in different colors), but I’m hoping to find something in black gingham that would be appropriate for work. I contemplated these cute flats on clearance at JCF, but I think a skirt or a dress would get more use.

What did you buy in June?

  1. I have the retail version of the striped factory skirt you picked up and I am still in love with it a year later. It’s a great choice. Enjoy your summer “off.” It’s good to take a break and focus on your life.
