November 2016 Budget

Happy Cyber Monday to all! In the spirit of the occasion, I thought I would share this month’s purchases. As I mentioned in last month’s budget recap, I have been buying all sorts of furniture and home goods for our new house, but shopping for clothing has been less of a focus. In fact, my monthly budget was almost under $50…until those “pre-Black Friday” sales started popping up. Here’s what made the cut:

the keepers

red plaid button-up {J.Crew Factory} $37 ($74.50 on sale for $37.00) This was an item I mentioned in my most recent wishlist post; it will be replacing a button-up shirt I own in the same type of plaid. Although this item has a few negative reviews, I am content with this purchase. It doesn’t seem too see-through to me (as previous reviewers have claimed), and I like that it’s lightweight–all the better for layering!

clare cardigan in heather acorn {J.Crew Factory} $12 ($54.50 marked down to $19.99 + extra 40% off) I had been eyeing this cardigan all autumn long, so I was delighted when it hit the clearance rack at the same time that the above shirt went on sale. Plus free shipping? Sold.

leather scallop flats in black and red {Sam + Libby via Target} $25 each ($34.99 each + BOGO 50% off promotion) I am such a mom now–I pretty much live in flats. Remember the days when I wore 4-inch wedges every day of the week? Sigh. Anyway, these are quite comfortable and are made of surprisingly soft leather. The black pair has already seen heavy use, but I haven’t found the right outfit for the red pair yet. Also, as a side note, I recommend sizing up a half-size if you try these for yourself.

essential skinny pants in fireball red {Loft} $35 ($69.50 on sale for $35.00) I don’t typically gravitate toward vibrantly colored pants these days, but for some reason, I just loved these when I was browsing at Loft last week. The Marisa fit at Loft fits me pretty perfectly, so I decided to go for it. I think I can pair them with plenty of things already in my closet–chambray shirts, leopard shoes or accessories, white lace top blouse…

sloan fit pants in charcoal gray {Banana Republic} $34 ($88.00 + 50% off coupon + $10 rewards) These were another item that I mentioned in my wishlist. As expected, a great sale came along, and I decided to give these pants a try. Some of the reviews for these pants indicated that they weren’t tapered enough in the calves, but they work just fine for me; I have rather “shapely” calves, so I appreciate the bit of extra fabric. This is my second pair of pants in this fit from BR, and I can definitely see myself buying more in the future.

the returns

No returns this month! Everything I ordered online happened to fit quite nicely. Small victories!

the extras

No extras this month, either. Although our anniversary was November 3rd, Seth and I decided to skip presents this year in light of our home purchase.

November total: $168

2016 total: $1820

Remaining budget: $180

I am genuinely excited about each of my purchases this month, so that’s always a good sign. I am debating whether I should have opted for the navy or nude color in the scallop flats, as opposed to the dark red. I have plenty of outfit ideas for each of the other items, however, so I’m considering this a good shopping month.

As for next month, I don’t anticipate receiving too many clothing items or accessories for either my birthday or Christmas. I decided to ask for mostly practical items–a new bathrobe, a coffee maker, and replacements of my favorite kind of pens. That being said, I have dropped heavy hints with Seth that I wouldn’t mind seeing these kicks under the tree 🙂

What did you buy in November?

  1. It looks like a very pragmatic month for you 🙂 Currently I only have a single sweater for the month of November because I didn’t include my online Black Friday purchases. One of the online purchases is a cross between two of yours though! I purchased the Banana Republic Sloan pants in Red. Here’s hoping they work out 🙂
