December 2016 Budget

Hello all! Since my last update, the holiday season has come (and almost gone). Amidst my shopping for loved ones, I also managed to buy a few items for myself, the details of which are below…

december-2016

the keepers

herringbone pumps {Apt 9 via Kohl’s} $26 ($59.99 + 50% off Black Friday sale + extra 15% off coupon) I’ll admit it–this was totally an impulse purchase. I went for a shopping excursion on Black Friday in the shopping complex near our hotel and stumbled upon these cute pumps at Kohl’s. The herringbone and tassel detail really struck my fancy (very J.Crew-ish, no?), and surprisingly, they are pretty comfortable too. I bought them, and now I’m hoping I don’t regret that decision.

burgundy ankle pants {Loft} $35 ($69.50 + 50% off Black Friday sale) These were another Black Friday purchase. As I may have mentioned before, I’m a bit smaller than I was pre-pregnancy, so I’m having to buy pants in a smaller size. I’m still loving all things wine/burgundy/oxblood, so these have already been worn quite a few times.

ivory cable knit sweater {J.Crew Factory} $36 ($89.50 + 60% off promotion) I mentioned wanting a sturdy cable knit sweater in my most recent wishlist post, and after trying a few, I finally settled on this one. It’s technically from the men’s section (I ordered a size XS), but it fits reasonably well, albeit slightly over-sized and long (perfect for pairing with leggings/skinny jeans). I love it…but it’s been in the 60s and 70s around here, so I haven’t gotten the opportunity to wear it yet!

white ankle pants {MICHAEL Michael Kors via Macy’s) $40 ($110 on sale for $43.99 + extra 10% off coupon) It may seem odd to be buying white pants in December, but I’ve been eyeing these since last summer. So when they went on major sale, I scooped them up in a hurry.

gold polka dot pajamas {Boden} $53 ($88.50 + 40% off sale) To be honest, $50 is way more than I would normally spend on pajamas. However, I usually receive a new pair of pajamas for my birthday or Christmas every year, and the ones I received this year were too heavy of a material (i.e., flannel) for my liking. I’ve really come to love pajama sets like these, and this particular pair gets very good reviews. Plus, I just couldn’t resist the gold and ivory color scheme. These haven’t arrived yet, but here’s hoping they’re as wonderful as they seem and prove to be worth the price tag!

the returns

Before landing on the JCF sweater above, I tried this one from Lands’ End. It was soft and nice quality, but it was a bit more fitted than I wanted. I am also trying out the leather pants/coated skinny jeans trend. I actually bought a pair of coated skinny jeans from Ann Taylor last spring (and love them!), but alas, they are now too big. I tried this version by Mavi Jeans, but the fit was just plain weird around the crotch area. Back they go!

the extras

There were plenty of extras this month due to my birthday and Christmas. For my birthday, my sisters got me a few collector tees from J.Crew Factory (this one and this one, to be precise), and my mother-in-law gave me this cute backpack. Seth picked out this pretty clutch wallet. I also used some birthday money to buy this coat on eBay (I got a much better price, for the record).

For Christmas, Seth gave me the sneakers I wanted from J.Crew (can you tell I really like gold + white?). My mom gave me these pretty sparklers, and my sister gifted me this super sleek watch.

And…I also sold quite a bit of clothing on Poshmark, so I used those funds to buy a few items: these flats, these pants, this bracelet, and this vest.

Whew–told you there were lots of extras!

December total: $188

2016 total: $2008

Remaining budget: -$8

Overall, December’s purchases are all going to get good use, potentially with the exception of those herringbone pumps. I probably should have pocketed the earnings from my clothing sales rather than spending them, but at least I had fun shopping for those items, and they are all things I had been eyeing for a few months.

Just as I did last year, I’ll post a separate year-end budget recap.

What did you buy in December?
