shades of blue

Yet another set of pictures taken in wet and sticky weather. It has been raining non-stop around here, which presents me with a serious footwear dilemma: what shoes do you wear on a rainy summer day? Rain boots aren’t ideal since it’s so hot, and sandals seem entirely impractical.

On this occasion, I went with my leather slip-ons. Not super cute, but functional. On another note, I’ve been wearing my light chambray shirt tied up like this so often (see here and here) that I’m thinking maybe it would be useful to have a lightweight, light wash denim jacket. Thoughts? I like the looks of this one, but it’s not available at any stores near me to try on.

Welp, we’ve officially made it to the part of the summer when it’s completely unbearable to be outside for more than a few minutes at a time. Translation: I’ve been dressing for the heat. Lightweight dresses and skirts from now until October, friends!

Yet another benefit of these style challenges is that it’s encouraging me to wear pieces that I’ve long neglected. Case in point: the black lace skirt. It has sat in my closet for 2.5 years, and I just pulled the tags off yesterday. You would think it would be relatively versatile (and I think it is), but it’s just a wee bit tight in the waist and a bit too short for work, which is probably why I never reach for it. Debating whether it deserves to stay in my closet…

These past few days have ended up being extraordinarily eventful–let’s just say a gas leak, a daycare evacuation, and a febrile seizure were involved. On days like those, I am very glad that I already had my outfits planned out so that I can devote my mental energy to the tasks at hand!

day twenty-two:

day twenty-three:

day twenty-five:

This round had a few surprises in that some of the items were unexpectedly difficult to re-mix. For some reason, I had the hardest time coming up with ideas for the gray tee. I could have chosen something else, but it was kind of annoying me that I couldn’t get creative. I eventually came up with the two looks you see here, but neither is something I am likely to repeat again. Just a few more days of this challenge left!

The longer I do this challenge, the more I realize the seasonality of my wardrobe. What I mean by that is that I’m finding myself re-mixing a lot of the same items as I did in last year’s TOPIO challenge (e.g., olive skirt, lace top), which just goes to show that although I might have hundreds of items in my closet (eek!), I reach for the same 10-20 pieces during a given season. It’s giving me the itch to do another closet purge…

day nineteen:

day twenty:

day twenty-one:

white lace tee: J.Crew Factory, similar // skinny jeans: BP, similar // tan clog sandals: Lotta from Stockholm, exact // turquoise pendant necklace: Kendra Scott, similar

I think my favorite look from this batch is the one with the black maxi dress–I was kind of burned out on maxi dresses for a while after pregnancy, as I wore them A LOT that summer (check the maternity style category), but I’m now remembering how comfy they are for summertime. That being said, I’m still not brave enough to re-mix a dress two days in a row; I feel like my co-workers would notice!
