bows + polka dots

DSC_0367Based on this post’s title, you would think that my outfit would be over-the-top girly (and maybe it is), but in my estimation, I think it strikes a pretty good balance of feminine and masculine.

DSC_0354In my most recent budget post, I was a little uncertain as to whether I would keep this shirt. I love the polka dots, but the colors make it somewhat limited in terms of re-mixing.

DSC_0382As you can see, I decided to keep it anyway. For this first outfit, I wasn’t wildly creative–just jeans, black pumps, and a watch. Maybe next time I’ll be a little more bold with my styling choices!

DSC_9836I’ve been deriving outfit inspiration from Pinterest for quite some time now, but I’ve just recently starting getting fashion help from Instagram. Specifically, I saw this look from The Double Take Girls, and I knew I had to re-create it (OK, so it helped that I own the exact same blazer).

DSC_9834At first, I tried copying the outfit quite literally with my snow leopard top, but the cowl-neck just seemed weird with a blazer. So instead, I went with trusty polka dots.

DSC_9843As you’ll see below, I did stay true to the inspiration for my shoe choice–I’m still loving my $9 silver pumps!

the replacement

DSC_9178One of my favorite tops over the past couple of months has been my brown and black polka dot sweater. I originally bought it used, so it’s always been a little worn, but after all the love it’s been getting this winter, it was finally time to give it up. Pilling and bleach stains don’t make much of a fashion statement.

DSC_9124So, I found this top from Lands’ End that’s a pretty close look-alike. It’s not a sweater, but it is a very thick knit, so I’m hoping it will serve the same function in my wardrobe.

DSC_9138Now that I have a replacement, I was pretty psyched to finally re-create this pin. The pin links to the home page of the blog, so I have no idea what the rest of the outfit looked like…so I improvised.

hail, snow, + pink

DSC_8605Just as I stepped outside to take these outfit photos, something began falling from the sky. Truthfully, I have no idea whether it was hail, snow, or frozen rain (really, what’s the difference?). Ask me about tornadoes, and I can tell you all about the Fujita Damage Scale, but when it comes to this winter nonsense, I’m clueless.

DSC_8578So when I returned ran back inside to my comfortably heated living room, I turned on the news. You would think it was the end of the world: “SNOW FLURRIES REPORTED IN BIRMINGHAM.” I guess after last year’s snowpocalypse, everyone is on high alert.

DSC_8629OK, weather rant over. I’m sure you’re tired of reading those. My outfit today was another rendition of vest + jeans + boots, although at least this time I wore an interesting necklace too.
