Take One, Pass It On: Day 30

Oh, hey striped skirt. It’s been a while.

In my house, I have a bit of a reputation of being anti-clutter–several times per year, I get into “a mood,” and I purge items from my closet, the attic, even the filing cabinet. We don’t have much storage in our current house, so this ritual is a means of survival. So when an item of clothing such as this skirt remains in my closet for years, there must be something special about it. In this case, I just think that a striped pencil skirt is a classic–it will never go out of style, so I keep hanging onto it. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it’s quite stretchy, which has made it quite forgiving of all my weight fluctuations over the past few years.

I brought it out today for the first day of class…on which I have no classes. I am “advanced” old enough that I am done with taking classes for my PhDizzle–it’s just research from here on out. No matter how old I get though, I still get a wee bit excited when selecting my outfit for the first day of school 🙂

chambray + floral

DSC_8980In a recent budget post, I mentioned that I “upgraded” my chambray blazer using some ThredUp credits. I’ve been wearing it quite a bit in the last few weeks (although not necessarily for looks that make it on the blog). I love that it’s just as versatile as a denim jacket but a bit more polished and professional looking.

DSC_8974For this outfit, I copied one of Fran’s past looks by pairing the blazer with a floral top and black pants. It’s not a combination I would have come up with on my own, but I like the way it turned out. #pinterestwin

second chances

DSC_8670In one of my review posts last December, I mentioned that these pants might be one of my worst purchases of 2015–mostly because they were too small. I gave them a second chance this past week to help me decide if it’s time to sell or donate them.

DSC_8647I was pleasantly surprised to find that they’re not quite so snug now. Yay! So now I’m planning on keeping them for now. Sometimes second chances work out well 😉

DSC_8676Now I’m on a mission to brainstorm a few ways to wear them; the print is a little “louder” than I usually wear, so hopefully I can come up with some looks to tone them down a bit. How would you wear printed jeans like these?

florals at last

DSC_8269Today’s outfit is another one that was a long time coming. This pin has been hanging out on my fashion inspiration board for months now. I really wanted to wear it right away, but the whole pregnancy thing happened, and then it seemed weird to wear a floral scarf in the middle of December.

DSC_8262Now that spring is on the horizon, I’ve decided to bust out the florals, and in turn, finally re-create the aforementioned pin. I liked this look so much that I’ve worn it a few times now–it’s perfect for the in-between temperatures we’ve been having, and it’s comfy!
