presentable

Black, white, and burgundy is definitely a color combination you’ll see frequently throughout the blog archives–it’s pretty neutral, but not boring. That’s definitely a characteristic I look for when I want to appear professional, which is why I wore this look for a conference (in which I was presenting a poster) this past week.

Technically, I wore this outfit a few days prior to the conference too, as a “trial run.” Does anyone else do that? I like to try out an outfit for an important occasion, just to be sure there’s not something unexpectedly wrong with the garments or the way they fit or drape. I guess I’ve had one too many occasions when the zipper is impossible scratchy or the pants are just a bit too tight, so I’ll take the extra precaution!

more black + green

Apparently, I’m on a bit of a black and green kick. I didn’t notice the trend until I put together a collage of my favorite outfits from August on Instagram. There was a time that such repetition would have bothered me, but the older I get, the more comfortable I am with maintaining a consistent color palette. But I will acknowledge that maybe this habit makes things a bit more boring for blog readers.

Although this color infatuation is a relatively new development, I’ve actually had this pin hanging around for a while, and it was the inspiration for this outfit. Love the idea of adding lace into the mix…I’ll remember that for the next (inevitable) iteration of this color combination!

olive and ivory…2 years later

One of my favorite color combinations for pretty much any season is olive + ivory + brown. The combination just seems so classic and very “me” every time I wear it. That’s why you can find it throughout the archives: here, here, here, here, here.

Anyway, today’s looks a a do-over of one I wore back in January 2015. As you can see, this version includes a similar dress, an olive cardigan, and sandals instead of boots. I’m thinking this dress will be on repeat this fall because it is SO comfy and the perfect length. I might need to devote a post to brainstorming new ways to wear it…any ideas?

take one, pass it on 2017: days 26-28

Welp, we’ve officially made it to the part of the summer when it’s completely unbearable to be outside for more than a few minutes at a time. Translation: I’ve been dressing for the heat. Lightweight dresses and skirts from now until October, friends!

Yet another benefit of these style challenges is that it’s encouraging me to wear pieces that I’ve long neglected. Case in point: the black lace skirt. It has sat in my closet for 2.5 years, and I just pulled the tags off yesterday. You would think it would be relatively versatile (and I think it is), but it’s just a wee bit tight in the waist and a bit too short for work, which is probably why I never reach for it. Debating whether it deserves to stay in my closet…
