take one, pass it on 2017: days 26-28

Welp, we’ve officially made it to the part of the summer when it’s completely unbearable to be outside for more than a few minutes at a time. Translation: I’ve been dressing for the heat. Lightweight dresses and skirts from now until October, friends!

Yet another benefit of these style challenges is that it’s encouraging me to wear pieces that I’ve long neglected. Case in point: the black lace skirt. It has sat in my closet for 2.5 years, and I just pulled the tags off yesterday. You would think it would be relatively versatile (and I think it is), but it’s just a wee bit tight in the waist and a bit too short for work, which is probably why I never reach for it. Debating whether it deserves to stay in my closet…

To keep things from being completely boring, I opted not to remix my navy skirt yesterday and instead “pass on” the olive cardigan. I’m a big fan of olive + black + white, so I went for that color palette today.

This look served me well through a pretty routine day of data collection and phone calls. My one gripe is that in looking at these photos, this dress is a wee bit shorter than I would prefer for work. I honestly think that it’s my boobs that are taking up extra fabric and thus bringing up the hem a bit. So once I stop breastfeeding, maybe I’ll feel a bit less scandalous in this dress.

Here we are, at the start of another week of this challenge! I’ll be remixing some different pieces this week, largely because I’m starting to transition into the fall (even if the weather isn’t). For today’s look, I remixed my olive shorts.

Technically, I’ve shared this look with you before…it was just a maternity version (which I wore almost exactly a year a go. Weird.). I wore that outfit quite a bit during my pregnancy, so I decided to recreated it with a non-maternity top (and no belly band!). It served me well for the day’s activities–Caleb was baptized yesterday, so we had my whole family over to celebrate and swim in our pool. It was definitely a great way to enjoy the afternoon.

Here we are again, with one of the most worn items in my closet: a striped tee. I’ve remixed this item before on the blog, and I bet I could show you about 20 more outfits with it (but I’ll spare you…for now). For now, I’ll just share the most recent combination: with my ever-present red skirt.

This outfit is another one I’ve probably worn ten times over the course of this summer. The flippy skirt is quite excellent in the ventilation department, and it’s comfortable. Plus, I just seem to be having a love affair with all shades of red these days. Maybe next time I wear it, I’ll branch out from the black/white/red color palette…
