Take One, Pass It On: Day 30

Oh, hey striped skirt. It’s been a while.

In my house, I have a bit of a reputation of being anti-clutter–several times per year, I get into “a mood,” and I purge items from my closet, the attic, even the filing cabinet. We don’t have much storage in our current house, so this ritual is a means of survival. So when an item of clothing such as this skirt remains in my closet for years, there must be something special about it. In this case, I just think that a striped pencil skirt is a classic–it will never go out of style, so I keep hanging onto it. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it’s quite stretchy, which has made it quite forgiving of all my weight fluctuations over the past few years.

I brought it out today for the first day of class…on which I have no classes. I am “advanced” old enough that I am done with taking classes for my PhDizzle–it’s just research from here on out. No matter how old I get though, I still get a wee bit excited when selecting my outfit for the first day of school 🙂

Take One, Pass It On: Day 16

Well, this outfit was not a winner, folks. I thought it would be, as one of my favorite maternity looks was this one from last year. But, the problem with this version boils down to ill-fitting pants and a deep self-consciousness about the size of my bottom half. The pretty goldenrod-colored pants fit my postpartum body a bit strangely, as they’re far too big in the waist now, and they stretch to about a size bigger everywhere else over the course of the day. Plus, when I looked back at these photos, I decided that wearing flats with these pants made my look fat (I realize I’m not overweight, but, hey, we all have those days…), so I wore these sandals instead.

Regardless, the end result of this look was not good. It did not function well for my day of office work and a visit to the dentist in that I was pulling up my pants all day and worried that my butt looked gigantic. In the future, I might try to find another version of these pants (i.e., a smaller size, or perhaps a skirt in the same color), or maybe I’ll just gain weight so that these pants fit again. That latter option sounds more fun 🙂

Take One, Pass It On: Day 9

The item I “passed on” for today is the chambray peplum top. This is a new item that I snagged on sale last week, and I really love its shape and versatility. Seth, however, might not be such a fan. When I put it on yesterday to run our afternoon errands, he said something along the lines of, “What’s with the futuristic get-up?” Apparently, he thinks it looks like something straight out of the Hunger Games. I think Effie Trinket is quite stylish, no?

Futuristic or not, this top worked reasonably well for my day of phone calls and poster-making (again). My only complaint is that it wrinkles pretty easily, particularly when I’m taking it on and off to pump at work. Also, in retrospect, I think next time I would add a statement necklace (like this one) to make it a little more interesting.

Take One, Pass It On: Day 5

You see this bright, white tee? Well, it didn’t stay bright white today. Just as I was leaving for work this morning, Caleb pulled one of his most charming tricks by using me as a human napkin. Yep–peanut butter right across the boobs. Lovely. I didn’t have time to change, so I dabbed some water on my chest and went on my merry way. By the time I got to work, the damage was clear: I had faint brown stains on my shirt…and a meeting with my advisor in 15 minutes. Because it’s a solid crew neck tee, I ended up just wearing the shirt backwards until I could go home to change at lunch. Oh, the joys of motherhood!

This outfit is another favorite of this summer–I’ve worn some variation of it several times, in an effort to mimic this look. This time around, I decided to don my leopard sandals (<–click for a close-up!) in honor of this self-imposed Take One, Pass It On challenge. Definitely an outfit I’ll repeat…assuming I can get those PB stains out!
