flutter sleeves

In case you haven’t noticed, flutter sleeves are kind of having a moment right now; it seems most tops these days have a little flutter and/or ruffle action going on. I resisted the trend for a while, as I have pretty broad shoulders, and I wasn’t too keen on adding volume to that part of my body. But when this pom-pom trimmed dress caught my eye, and it just so happened to have some flutter sleeves too, I decided to try out the trend.

To be honest, the sleeves are a bit more voluminous than I’d like, but the dress was final sale…so I’m living with them. I still like the dress though; it’s a fun change of pace from my usual stripes and chambray. On this particular day, I kept things pretty simple by sticking with black and a touch of metallic for accessories.

So, what do you think? Does this dress make me look like a linebacker? How would you wear a dress like this?

shades of gray

DSC_4376For as much as I love the way these gray maternity pants fit me, I can’t seem to think of many ways to wear them. Perhaps it’s because they’re a dressier professional pant, whereas most of my maternity tops are pretty casual? Regardless, I struggled to come up with this outfit last week.

DSC_4360In the end, I decided to go with one of my (yes I have multiple) jewel-collar shirts and some metallic pumps. Sadly, this button-up will have to join the ranks of the rest of my regular wardrobe until further notice–my belly is a bit too big to wear it comfortably anymore. Sad face.

navy + gold

DSC_2467This dress is making me think, “Good job, past self.” I bought this dress last fall using some Poshmark *credit, and while I haven’t managed to wear it in a blog post (eek!), I’m really glad I have it now. The cut is quite forgiving, so I think I’ll be able to wear it well into pregnancy. Score!

DSC_2460I’m a big fan of the navy + gold color combination, but I wasn’t quite sure how to make it un-fancy. I decided to go with some gold sandals and a coordinating belt. I can envision dressing up this dress a bit with a gold statement necklace, fun heels, and a sleek clutch. Maybe an idea for our next date night?

floral + chambray

DSC_1224Ever since I got this floral pencil skirt, I’ve envisioned an outfit like this one–I just love the look of chambray with a bold floral print.

DSC_1217A pencil skirt feels a little formal for my workplace (I’m a graduate student, remember), so the chambray shirt is a good way to make the look a little more casual. I know–having to “dress down” for work is a great problem to have 🙂
