Take One, Pass It On: Week 3 Recap

This week saw a bit more interest in that I managed to wear some patterns other than stripes–leopard! floral!–but the color palette was not quite as diverse; I wore a lot of navy blue over the past few days! It’s interesting to me that even though this challenge is about remixing, I find myself wearing a lot of items that have sat neglected in my closet. I suppose that’s the point–to maximize what you already own to make myriad new combinations.

After my ode to this striped skirt yesterday, it should come as no surprise that it’s the item I chose to remix for today. I actually kind of struggled to think of another way to wear it, as I really wanted to pair it with a chambray shirt. But it’s just too dang hot for that right now. Instead, I went with a flowy navy top and a touch of burgundy.

This look worked fine for a day with minimal walking, but these pumps are just a smidge too small, which is why I don’t wear them all that often. I might have to add “comfy burgundy shoes” to my fall wishlist…

Today’s outfit is another one from my list of most repeated looks of the summer. Truthfully, I bought this skirt as a means of getting free shipping during a J.Crew Factory promotion a while back (yes, that old excuse again…), and I ended up really loving it. It’s lined but made of a very lightweight material, which makes for a perfect summer skirt in my mind. Plus, it’s a length that is totally appropriate for work.

So, I really like this outfit, even if I don’t love the way these pictures turned out. My hair is a mess, I look a bit dazed, and my necklace is all kinds of wonky…but that’s real life these days, friends! Let’s call it loss for my vanity but a win for authenticity.

last minute inspiration

DSC_2349During the regular school year, I’ve made it a habit to plan out my outfits for the week on Sunday afternoons. For me, it usually makes for more creative outfits, with the added bonus that I get to campus on time during the week.

DSC_2339These days though, I’ve been winging it every morning. On the day I wore this outfit, I just glanced through my Pinterest boards, saw this pin and decided I had all the pieces to re-create the look almost exactly. Boom. Done. It didn’t require any originality on my part, but it worked out pretty well!
