take one, pass it on 2017: days 15-18

I’m just now realizing that I didn’t really set out any real rules for myself for this challenge. At first, I thought I should be remixing only clothing items, but as time has gone on, I’ve allowed myself to use accessories as the “pass it on” items…first shoes (see here), and now purses. Whatever, it’s my blog, and I make the rules.

day fifteen:

blue striped button up: Banana Republic Factory, similar // navy skirt: J.Crew, similar // tan clogs: Lotta from Stockholm, exact // red crossbody bag: Ann Taylor, similar // tortoise sunglasses: Warby Parker Banks, exact

day sixteen:

blue striped button up: Banana Republic Factory similar // olive skirt: J.Crew Factory, exact // cognac wedges: Jessica Simpson, exact // cognac belt: Merona, similar

day seventeen:

ivory tee: Banana Republic Factory, exact // olive skirt: J.Crew Factory, exact // two-tone wedge sandals: b.o.c., similar // tortoise link necklace: J.Crew, similar

day eighteen:

red striped tee: J.Crew Factory, exact // white shorts: JCPenney, similar // tan wedge sandals: Chaps, exact // tortoise link necklace: J.Crew, similar

This batch of outfits is a good example of why I like to do these challenges every now and then–I’ve owned all of these items for quite some time now, but these are all new combinations. I’m not sure I love any of these particular outfits, but I do like that I’m trying new things. Stay tuned for the next roundup for more re-mixing!

take one, pass it on 2017: days 12-14

I’ve made it two weeks into this challenge, and I think I’ve hit my groove. I’m no longer grumpy about being limited in what I can wear and instead delighted by the opportunity to get creative with my closet. I guess it’s true what they say–it takes two weeks to form a new habit! Here’s a look at what I’ve worn over the past few days:

day twelve:

black striped tank: J.Crew Factory, similar // mustard skirt: Loft (I dyed it from a brighter shade of yellow, seen here), similar // black wedges: Jessica Simpson, exact // black leather strap watch: Kate Spade New York, similar // gray tortoise sunglasses: Warby Parker Banks, exact

day thirteen:

chambray button up: Old Navy, similar // mustard skirt: Loft, similar // leopard wedge sandals: Sam Edelman, similar

day fourteen:

chambray button up: Old Navy, similar // black gingham dress: Maison Jules, similar // black wedge sandals: Chaps, exact // red crossbody bag: Ann Taylor, similar // black + gold sunglasses: Warby Parker Lovett, exact

I think one key strategy in my attitude shift for this challenge is the fact that I set aside a few minutes at the beginning of the week to plan out my looks. Up until this point, I had kind of been haphazardly choosing an item to re-mix each day, and the end result was a mish-mash of boring outfits that I didn’t really like that much. I used my handy-dandy garment rack that my husband bought me for Christmas–check out a pic on IG!

it still fits…sorta

DSC_4274My navy gingham shirt is one of my favorite items in my closet, so I’m trying my hardest to make it work during pregnancy. Let the record show that I could still button it all the way down at 26 weeks pregnant…but not comfortably. I ended up layering a cami underneath and unbuttoning a few buttons to let the bump breathe a little 🙂

DSC_4268I also decided to bring my red crossbody bag out again for a trip to the grocery store. It’s much easier to carry than my usual stuffed-to-the-brim work bag!

punchy red

DSC_4055Most of the time, you’ll see me carrying around a satchel or tote, usually with some combination of notebooks, a laptop, and/or snacks in tow. But I recently decided that maybe it was worth trying out a crossbody bag for running errands on the weekend.

DSC_4053In an ideal world, I would get this bag–I just love its punchy orangey-red color and simple gold hardware. But alas, I’m a girl on a budget. So instead I’m trying out this one from Gap. It doesn’t hold a whole lot, but that’s kind of the point, right? I just love its fun little tassel 🙂

DSC_4064And because I wore this outfit over Labor Day weekend, I felt the need to add a little blue for some patriotic flair.

DSC_4066What kind of bag do you typically carry? I’ve also been weighing the pros and cons of a leather backpack like this one
