keep, sell, or donate?

In an effort to maintain a reasonably sized wardrobe and also indulge in shopping as a hobby, I am perpetually playing a game of keep, sell, or donate–and two items in this look are being called into question.

First, the denim jacket: I bought it over a year and a half ago, and have worn it several times (see them here, here, here, here, here), but I’m not sure it’s the ideal denim jacket. It’s a smidge too big, which is nice for the rare occasion I need to layer a sweater underneath, but otherwise just annoying. I also kind of wish it was either a little lighter in its wash (like this one I used to have–why did I ever get rid of that?!) or a little darker. The mid-wash is somewhat more difficult to style sometimes. I like it, it’s just not perfect for me. I have it listed on Poshmark, so I guess it’s in the “sell” category for now.

Second is the skirt I’m wearing. It’s unlike anything in my closet, which is good in the sense that it adds some interest to my wardrobe. However, it makes my wardrobe a little less cohesive, and I can’t think of a lot of different ways to wear it (I’ve worn it once before on the blog here). Ultimately, I think I like its kaleidoscopic effect enough to keep it for now…I mean, it does have pockets, after all.

summer weekends

To be frank, this outfit isn’t all that exciting, but I’ve worn some variation of it at least ten times this summer, so I figured it deserved a post on the blog. I think the reason I love it so much is due to the comfort of the shorts–they’re about a size and a half too big, which leaves plenty of room for delicious meals at restaurants 🙂 The shorts are also a good starting point for choosing different tops; thus far, I’ve also worn them with gray, green, and chambray (see that look here).

This particular summer weekend was spent taking Caleb to the library, enjoying lunch at Zoe’s, browsing through my favorite thrift and consignment stores, and watching a few episodes of Ozark.

How did you spend your weekend?

Take One, Pass It On: Week 4 Recap

Well, by the fourth week of this challenge, this way of dressing has finally started to come more naturally. I spent less time planning outfits this week, but I’m still pretty pleased with the results. Sure, there are tweaks I would make for the next time around, but I think I achieved a good balance of trying new looks while still maintaining my sense of personal style. I’ll expand on my experience of this challenge as a whole when I finish out the month on Wednesday!

Take One, Pass It On: Day 17

Today’s outfit is another one from my list of most repeated looks of the summer. Truthfully, I bought this skirt as a means of getting free shipping during a J.Crew Factory promotion a while back (yes, that old excuse again…), and I ended up really loving it. It’s lined but made of a very lightweight material, which makes for a perfect summer skirt in my mind. Plus, it’s a length that is totally appropriate for work.

So, I really like this outfit, even if I don’t love the way these pictures turned out. My hair is a mess, I look a bit dazed, and my necklace is all kinds of wonky…but that’s real life these days, friends! Let’s call it loss for my vanity but a win for authenticity.
